One can change what one does, but one cannot change what one wants. Sebastian Vettel’s stark comparison to a villain was put under suspicion after his Aston Martin successor, Fernando Alonso villain-esque reputation questioned the German’s ability toward the end of his career. As Aston Martin starts climbing the stairs of fortune, which of the two rivals came out on top by embracing the Villain inside them?

Aston Martin’s start to the 2023 F1 season has shocked everyone, including the Silverstone-based team itself. Nobody in their dreams would’ve imagined Aston Martin becoming the 2nd quickest car in 2023 after they finished 7th in constructors last season. The British team has scored 3 podiums in 3 races. Many believe it is Sebastian Vettel’s hard work and feedback given to the team, which is now reaping rewards. Sebastian Vettel and his successor at Aston Martin, Fernando Alonso, both share the DNA of being called and embraced as a Villian in F1. The hosts of the VF1 Show with VF and Vincenzo podcast suggest that Vettel might not have left F1 if he knew the AMR23 is going to be this good. However, the host also added that the Geman lost his aggressive touch as he joined Aston Martin and fell out of the Villain role. Whereas Fernando Alonso still embraces the Villain’s aggressiveness that Aston Martin needs to push forward.

According to the VF1 Show with VF and Vincenzo podcast, the hosts said, “I don’t think Seb would’ve retired if he knew that was the car Aston Martin would have right now. But Then again, people also say that Seb didn’t drive merely as aggressively as he used to. He kind of fell out of that Villain role whereas Fernando Alonso is still very much the villain.” The host concluded by adding, “He [Fernando Alonso] embraces that Villian status.”
