Coming into 2022, F1 isn’t the way it used to be. From having new cars to promote overtaking to having new circuits all around the globe, the most popular form of Motorsports has changed heavily over the years. However, there is one circuit that’s still the same. Monaco Grand Prix.

Top-class street circuits like Singapore, Miami, and Jeddah have already got in the fray, with Las Vegas to come up next year. All these make Monaco a vulnerable event. Moreover, the number of races this year has already increased to 23 (Including the Russian GP as no replacement has been put in place), which is kind of hectic after taking the logistics into account.

Frederic Vasseur opened up on this recently. The Alfa Romeo team boss conveyed when asked if the circuit might lose its contract in the years to come, “I have the interview of Michel Boeri (chief promoter in Monaco; note d. Red.) also read that he is of course against it and that there must be negotiations with Formula 1 on a new treaty.”
“Formula 1 is a ‘big business’, also for the organizers. This also applies to Monaco. Monaco is an important race for Formula 1, but let’s be honest: With Las Vegas, Miami, Singapore, the values have shifted a little. We will find a solution.”, the Italian team boss further stated.
What might cause F1 to exclude Monaco GP from the calendar?
Well, as of now the scene isn’t in favor of Monaco. With the inclusion of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix and Miami Grand Prix this year, the talks about excluding the Monaco race are already on. With the 2022 cars being wider with 18-inch tires, the overtaking will become very hard on the narrow streets of Monaco.

Monaco has always been a phenomenal track for drivers. There isn’t one driver who wouldn’t want to win a race at the Principality harbor area track. However, the Monaco Grand Prix has become somewhat boring for the fans lately. Talking about this, the 2021 race just saw one overtake in the entire race. As cars have become wider and faster, overtakes have become difficult.

The Monaco Grand Prix is a 92-year-old track. With a majorly unchanged layout, the narrow straights become a risk factor for the cars to crash against them. As happened with Charles Leclerc in 2021 when he crashed against the barrier in qualifying. However, it’ll be interesting to see what the governing body decides about the ever famous Monaco Grand Prix.
