Valtteri Bottas, the Finnish driver, does not get enough credit for his work on the grid. Currently, one of the back runners in the pecking order, he used to be at the forefront of the most dominant era of Mercedes. Driving alongside Lewis Hamilton came with a lot of achievements, but that came with a lot of overshadowing as well.

While Mercedes is no longer at its peak, neither is Sauber, but that is said to change for the latter once Audi is in the picture. So far everyone thinks that Carlos Sainz Jr will follow his father and join Audi, but Bottas has made a strong argument as to why he is a deserving driver on the grid.

Why Valtteri Bottas is a great driver for Audi?

Bottas told Motorsport Total, “Experience is important in this sport. When the rules change, you also have to be very dynamic in terms of the direction you take with the car and have new ideas.

He further explained, “And the more experience you have, the better you can adapt to certain things. So I hope that will be my strength. They [Audi] should also know that I’m a good team player with everyone who works with me.”

So is Valtteri Bottas a good driver to be on Audi? For sure! However, that does not change the fact that Carlos Sainz is at his peak with the need to prove himself to the world. There is no shame in being replaced by the record-holding, 7-time champion Lewis Hamilton, but somewhere deep inside, it must have stung the driver.

Does this mean Carlos Sainz Jr should join Audi in 2026?

Carlos Sainz is doing amazing this season with the pressure of finding a new team on his head. But does this mean he will try to take a seat in Stake F1 until it becomes Audi? It’s not sure what will happen, but maybe going to Audi ultimately is not the best option for Sainz.

Right now, he is at his peak. After this, he would want to go to a team that has a chance of giving him more race wins. Audi, despite its name, technology, and backing, will be entering as a new team. That might take them a season or two to get into the groove.

Being in a team that has no promise of performing well for the next 3-4 years might be a problem for Sainz. Even after Audi becomes one of the top teams on the grid, other teams will already be dominating and in tune with the new regulations. Even if most of the members of Stake F1 remain in Audi, they have teams like Mercedes, Ferrari, McLaren, Aston Martin, and Red Bull to beat. That’s a long way up the ladder that Carlos Sainz Jr might just be better off avoiding at the moment.

So maybe giving Bottas a chance to show that he has not lost his mojo, and Sainz taking a seat in Mercedes or Red Bull feels like the better thing to do. But ultimately, it’s the drivers and teams that will decide and us who will enjoy what comes next up in the world of Formula One. With that said, what do you think will happen within Formula One after the 2026 regulations change? Let us know your thoughts on this in the comments below.
