After spending five years at Mercedes, Valtteri Bottas has parted ways with the Silver Arrows. The Finn will join Alfa Romeo for the 2022 season and will drive alongside Guanyu Zhou.

In a recent podcast, the Finnish driver opened up about a bonus that he was supposed to receive from the Brackley-based outfit. However, it never came to be. But, the Toto Wolff-led team gave him something special.

Bottas revealed that he lost on a bonus during his last race for the team at the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. However, he got something special from the team he was with for nearly five years.

Speaking of this on a podcast, Bottas said, “That singular lap did cost me a few millions yes, lucky I hadn’t bought anything with that money, but mercedes found a way to pay me back so to say.”

Being asked what he meant, the Finn responded, “They gave me my 2017 first f1 win car. I just have no place to put it for now!”

A fresh driver lineup for Alfa Romeo for the 2022 F1 season

Kimi Raikkonen and Antonio Giovinazzi raced in their last F1 Grand Prix for the Switzerland-based team at the 2021 Abu Dhabi GP. In 2022, the team will have Bottas and Zhou behind the wheel.

Having finished the 2021 championship in ninth place with just 13 points under their belt, the team hopes that Valtteri & Guanyu can take them to new heights in the forthcoming season of F1.
