Valtteri Bottas was defeated by Lewis Hamilton for 5 consecutive years during their time together at Mercedes. The Finnish driver might not have been able to get the better of the seven-time world champion on the racing track, but he has one one-upped him outside of it.

During his time at Mercedes, it was clear that Lewis was Mercedes’ first choice and Valtteri was the number two driver. This was something that arguably didn’t go down well with the Finn. For 2022, Valtteri decided to leave Mercedes for Alfa Romeo and partner rookie, Zhou Guanyu. Despite Lewis and Valtteri’s tussle on the track, both of them have been able to maintain a good relationship.
We saw a glimpse of that when one of the most dynamic duos in F1 got together on stage ahead of the Singapore GP. The two engaged in hilarious banter, with Valtteri having the last laugh.

Lewis Hamilton took a cheeky dig at his ex-teammate. Referring to the naked photo gifted to him by Valtteri ahead of the Monaco GP, Lewis said, “I’ve got this bloody picture of Valtteri butt naked in my house.”
To which, Valtteri hilariously replied, “Next time I’ll do the picture, the other way round.“

This is something that we don’t get to see between two drivers after they have parted ways. But Lewis and Valtteri have somehow been able to have that strong bond.

Valtteri Bottas was an integral part of the Mercedes team from 2017 to 2021. The Finnish driver, along with Lewis Hamilton, helped the Silver Arrows to win 5 consecutive championships. For the most part, they shared a decent relationship.

Fortunately, not a lot has changed after Valtteri’s move to Alfa Romeo. Speaking to People.com about his relationship with Lewis after his move, Valtteri said, “You know, we’re maybe not teammates, but still mates. It is nice. We have a good relationship in a way. Because we did achieve quite a bit of things together as teammates.”
“I think that kind of friendship will for sure last too.”
