Ahead of the 2021 F1 season, Fernando Alonso encountered a life-threatening bike accident. He suffered injuries to his jaw and even had to undergo surgeries for the same. However, that didn’t stop the Spaniard from cherishing his love for cycling, as he reckoned he had zero intentions of giving up the hobby.

Amidst his abundant love for cycling, his F1 colleague, Valtteri Bottas, revealed that the Alpine driver was once on course to creating his own cycling team.

What did Bottas say about Fernando Alonso?

The Mercedes F1 driver acknowledged that he is a huge fan of cycling and is also gearing up for the SBT GRVL race, set to take place in Colorado, United States.

The race will take place on gravel roads, which will spice up the event. However, despite competing in such recognizable cycling events, Bottas reckoned that Alonso is more into it than him. He further revealed the reason why most of the F1 drivers opt to go cycling.

Most do. Well, either running or cycling. For cardio, it’s running or cycling. Some are quite passionate about it. Fernando [Alonso] tried to create a cycling team at one point. He’s probably the most into it,” Bottas said in an exclusive interview with Velo News alongside his girlfriend, Tiffany Cromwell.

The race is scheduled for August 15. There are multiple ranges to the Sunday’s event at Steamboat Springs. However, Bottas will be competing in the 64-mile Red course.

Will Bottas’ girlfriend join the race?

Unlike Bottas, who rides for passion, Tiffany Cromwell is a professional cyclist. The Australian recently competed at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics but failed to snatch a medal.

Nevertheless, Cromwell eventually posted a positive message to her followers and is now prepping for her first cycling event since returning from Japan. Yes! Along with Bottas, Cromwell, too, will be taking part in the SBT GRVL race.

However, she will be racing in a much higher league compared to her partner. The Australian will race the 144-mile black course and is certainly looking to fight for the win.

On the other hand, it is all about enjoying for Bottas, who is in the middle of the summer break in F1. But, against the underlying odds, can Bottas actually win the race on Sunday?
