Valtteri Bottas has recently opened up on his new team, Alfa Romeo. For the 2022 season, the Finn has joined the Italian team from Mercedes AMG F1. In no time, the 32-year-old has taken the role of a leader at the Hinwil-based team.

Bottas has paved the way for George Russell at Mercedes. At Alfa Romeo, the former Mercedes driver replaced retirement-bound Kimi Raikkonen.

Talking about his new team, Bottas conveyed, “I think it is important to make sure that the people you work with know the past, the history and the great moments that the team had previously.”
“There is so much tradition in this. team, even with the brand, that perhaps after a couple of difficult years people need a push, a little motivation to believe that we can do it. I have to make sure that no one loses hope.” continued the former rally driver.
What does having Valtteri Bottas mean for Alfa Romeo?
Valtteri had been an integral part of Mercedes for the last few years. The Finn has joined the Brackley-based team in 2017 after Nico Rosberg’s retirement. Ever since, Bottas played the role of a perfect teammate to Lewis Hamilton.
The Former Mercedes Man had astonishing figures with Mercedes. Valtteri raked up 305 points in his debut season and finished at P3 in driver’s standings. The next season he picked up 247 points and finished at P5. Bottas ended his both 2019 and 2020 seasons in P2 and was again P3 in the 2021 driver’s championship.

As Bottas moved to Alfa Romeo, the team has got their much-needed impetus. A team that is already languishing at the bottom for the last couple of years needed this boost and they’re hopeful that they got it through Bottas. Valtteri will partner with the first-ever Chinese F1 driver, Guanyu Zhou for the 2022 season. It’ll be interesting to see how the Finland international copes with his new environment and gives a new start to his already flourishing F1 career.

As for the team, having such a world-class figure in the backyard is certainly a good experience for Alfa Romeo. Even though the Italian team finished in P9 in Constructor’s Championship last season, they’ll look to make the most of it this season with Valtteri Bottas spearheading their attack.
