The one thing that the entire Formula 1 world was waiting for has finally come to fruition. After an eternity of back-and-forth and complex negotiations, Lewis Hamilton has signed a 2-year contract extension with Mercedes that will see him driving for the team till the end of 2025 and earn him $127 million over its course. At such a junction, while making this magnanimous announcement, the Silver Arrows resonated with American gymnast, Simone Biles‘ 3-word mantra.
Simone Biles has been a Lewis Hamilton fan since 2021. Ever since F1 gained global recognition and spread into the USA, the American gymnast has been following the 7x champ. Last week Biles was spotted in the SAP arena, San Jose, donning a vibrant GK Elite purple leotard. Under the criss-cross detailing on the back of her outfit were the words: “but still I rise”. That exact motto is what the Silver Arrows have led the way with for a successful extension of their partnership with Hamilton.

The mercedesamgf1 Instagram page posted a photo of a victorious Lewis Hamilton celebrating with his Mercedes challenger, captioning it: “Still. We. Rise. ? Lewis will continue his historic relationship with the Team! ?” A very evident use of Biles’ mantra that makes her the champion she is. Also, one that perfectly fits the mindset of both athletes.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time that the legends of their respective sports have crossed paths. 2 years ago, Biles had commented on Hamilton’s greatness. After all, ‘greatness recognizes greatness’.
When Simone Biles revealed a burning desire to watch Lewis Hamilton racing
The Mercedes racer has established himself as the racer to watch. With an F1 career that spans over 15 years, his racing prowess is nothing short of extraordinary. In 2021, Simone Biles was asked in an Instagram Live if she had ever watched F1. Though she never had been to a track to witness any racing, she did share her desire to watch the 7x champion in action.

Both athletes are synonymous with the number 7. While Hamilton has 7 world championships to his name, Biles has 7 Olympic medals to hers. A conversation between them might just be what up-and-coming athletes require for a much-needed push in their professional spheres.
