Lewis Hamilton is best friends with a Red Bull athlete. After hearing this, one of the first people who come to mind would be Max Verstappen. It?s safe to say that the 2021 rivals aren?t the best of friends. So, to rephrase: Lewis Hamilton is close friends with a non-Formula 1 Red Bull athlete. Who is this sportsperson that Hamilton wouldn?t mind betraying his beloved Mercedes to support Red Bull? Foil fencer Miles Chamley-Watson.

It may not come as a surprise that one of the biggest stars in the global fencing scene and arguably the biggest star in F1 are good mates. In fact, they go way back, and their bond runs much deeper than what meets the eye. They?ve shown their support for each other through the years, and that?s precisely what Hamilton did as his best mate achieved a monumental feat.

Hamilton is an athlete who has inspired and will inspire generations to come. One of the people he positively impacted was Chamley-Watson. And now, the British-born American fencer has made his mark in the fencing scene. To add to that, Hamilton went from someone like a mentor to someone like a brother to Chamley-Watson. Needless to say, they?re a closely-knit pair, looking out for each other always.

With the qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympics underway, Team USA and Miles Chamley-Watson have gotten off to a great start. In an Instagram post after his win, he wrote, ???No better way to start the second part of our Olympic qualifying season than with a GOLD. This was an insane day. There were ups and downs emotionally but we managed to keep them all together and walk away with a huge win.? He thanked his team and his supporters, even giving a special shoutout to his father, who surprised him. But his fans weren?t just limited to the arena.

?I?m always my biggest critic, but I am happy with my performance today. We rest up and we get ready for Pan Am Games next week,? Chamley-Watson wrote. And guess who showed their support for the 12-time team Pan American champion? Seven-time F1 champion and his best mate, Lewis Hamilton. The Mercedes driver commented, ?LFG bro!!!!??

This isn?t the first time the sporting community has seen a crossover between fencing and F1 because Hamilton and Chamley-Watson have given us a lot of instances to look back on.

Because of how close they?ve gotten over the years, Chamley-Watson has made quite a few appearances in the F1 paddock. Hamilton invited the fencer to the 2018 Abu Dhabi GP as well as the 2019 Monaco GP. Last season, Red Bull invited Chamley-Watson as a guest for the Miami GP. Outside F1, he and Hamilton attended to 2021 Met Gala together and went backpacking to Africa in each other?s company as well. Having mastered their sports, they set out to challenge the queen of tennis, Serena Williams.

Back in 2019, Hamilton and Chamley-Watson (probably) played a doubles tennis match as partners. Given Hamilton?s post from the match and his celebration, the pair seemingly won the match. Hamilton wrote, ?Match point ?? We coming for you @serenawilliams ? @fencer.? Chamley-Watson commented, ?Who wants the smoke? We 450-0.? Eleven though that?s not an actual score, it?s evident they won the match pretty comfortably (if Chamley-Watson?s comment is anything to go by).
