As Ferrari unveiled the SF24, a few things were clear; the team has put in some work. The SF24’s car launch attracted many eyes as Ferrari not only changed its livery but considerably changed the car’s design. Ferrari has stated that Enrico Cardile, the chassis technical director has aimed to give the drivers a car that is easy to drive. With that being said, Ferrari took it up a notch and emphasized the feedback from drivers.

Although Lewis Hamilton is being sidelined in Mercedes at the moment, for Carlos Sainz‘s last season with Ferrari, the team is ready to give him the send-off he deserves. And the main way they are planning to pull that off is by picking up from where they left off in 2023. How will Ferrari do that? Here’s how.

The team, led by Enrico Cardile, has been working on revamping the chassis and the SF24 has some major changes as reported by Autosport. In a team statement, Team principal Frederic Vasseur said, “This year, we must start off where we left off at the end of last season, when we were consistent frontrunners, with a view to constantly improving in all areas.” So far, the drivers look quite pleased with the new car, with both of them making statements during the launch.

Cardile explained, “With the SF-24 we wanted to create a completely new platform and in fact, every area of the car has been redesigned, even if our starting point was the development direction we adopted last year and which saw us take a leap forward in terms of competitiveness in the final part of the season.” He continued We have taken on board what the drivers told us and turned those ideas into engineering reality, with the aim of giving them a car that’s easier to drive and therefore easier to get the most out of and push it to its limits.”

Cardile statements have made it clear that the SF24 is a new take on the SF23 and not just an upgrade. On another note, Lewis Hamilton has been consistently disappointed with the car that Mercedes has provided for the last three years. In 2023, although he managed to get some podiums, he was never a race winner. While in his last year with Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton feels the lack of support. On the other hand, Carlos Sainz seems pleased with the car and is looking forward to a great last season with Ferrari.

How is the SF24 different from its successor?

For the SF24 Ferrari shifted away from the ground-effect ‘bathtub’ style side pod which was seen last season. The team is going for a more stable car with this approach to make it easier to drive for the drivers. The SF-24H features a new, wider nose design, representing the widest Ferrari nose in the ground-effect era. This design alteration is likely targeted to optimize airflow management and improve aerodynamic performance, particularly at the front end of the car.

The highlight of the new livery is the reduced carbon fiber around the tailfin, rear wing main assembly, and halo. With this, more white and yellow flashes were added to the livery, along with more Ferrari Red. The Halo, wheel covers, and part of the front wing are all painted red, representing the team’s identity and maintaining consistency with their established brand image. The yellow from the logo and the white are not only a visual treat but a sign of improved visibility on the track.
