Would you believe us if we say the villain of F1 is now someone’s hero? Fernando Alonso once radioed his former team on how lucky he was that he only had one race left with his former teammate. Nevertheless, his newest teammate, Lance Stroll, considers him his mentor despite his previous excursions with past teammates. Let’s see what the Canadian has to say about his smarter teammate.
The Aston Martin AMR23 is quick, and the team is P2 in the constructor’s standings. But the car isn’t the only reason behind the success of the team. It’s the teamwork between the two drivers. Fernando Alonso, also known as the Antihero of F1, has completely transformed into a hero for Aston Martin and Lance Stroll. While Alonso was previously known for his criticism, he is now known as the mentor of Lance Stroll.
Fernando Alonso helped Stroll reach Q3 by punching a hole in the air for him on the straight and then helping him out with brake balance setting mid-race. Lance Stroll, in turn, refused to attack Alonso and save tires for both of them to challenge the competitors later. Stroll explained how Alonso is not his rival but his teammate and that they’re smart enough to manage tires and attack the competitors together.

According to elespanol.com, Lance Stroll, while talking about not attacking Alonso during the initial stages of Azerbaijan GP, said, “We both know that our rivals are not in another green car, but that they are the others. He was much smarter than we managed our tires.” He then suggested that he was not going to attack him for the good of the team.
The Canadian seems to have struck a nice chord with his well-experienced teammate. Alonso explained how he and Stroll share information on a regular basis to help each other out.

Alonso suggested that he and Stroll share the details about car performance and feel every weekend. They plan the weekend on how to manage the traffic and the strategy for each of the cars. He explained how during the race, if either one of them feels they’ve found something that was not discussed previously; they share so that the other can benefit from the same.
According to elespanol.com, Fernando Alonso said, “We talked a lot all weekend, from Thursday. The impressions we have of our previous participations, of how to manage traffic, the plan for each of the cars… And in the race, if we feel something special in the car, something that we would not have talked about before and that could benefit the other car, we communicate it to the wall,”
