Mick Schumacher proved an important point in qualifying amid rumors of being possibly sacked from his team. Finishing in P6 as the chequered the flag dropped, the German has set himself up nicely for Sunday’s race. In a fairly calm session, Mick was able to dial his car in and make his second Q3 appearance in the 2022 season.

With two hefty crashes under his belt, the former Formula 2 champion will be looking to make his mark in Canada. His VF-22 certainly has shown pace in the wets and the question is if he can hold on to this position from start to finish. With others also vying for position, it’s going to take an enormous skill from Schumacher to score his first points of the season.
Ralf Schumacher highlights the amazing qualifying session of Mick Schumacher
Mick Schumacher received praise from his uncle, Ralf Schumacher, for his commendable qualifying performance. Describing that this has taken the pressure off of his nephew, the timing could not have been better. “He did everything right in difficult conditions,” Ralf praised Mick on Sky.
“He shows exactly what he can do. He wasn’t Formula 3 and Formula 2 champion for nothing.”
Prior to Canada, it seemed like Haas was looking to get rid of Mick Schumacher from their driver lineup for next year. However, it looks like Schumacher’s ties to Ferrari helped, as the Maranello team intervened and overturned the decision. Ralf Schumacher added that Haas boss, Guenther Steiner no longer has any reason to fire Mick yet.

Mick has been closer to his more experienced teammate, Kevin Magnussen, this weekend than any other weekend. At the end of the session, the German driver was only 0.396 seconds behind the Dane. Although Schumacher lost time behind Carlos Sainz and hence wasn’t able to warm up his tires.
Can Mick score his first points in Formula 1 in Canada?
With both Haas cars in the top ten positions, expectations are high for the team. Mick Schumacher too felt that he earned his place in Formula 1 after a sixth-place finish. “Obviously, it’s nice to have a good result,” said the 23-year-old. “But it’s also something to build on. And, you know, just prove to everybody yes, I am here for a reason.”

Speaking to Autosport, Mick explained that he doesn’t listen to his critics and that he has proven enough in his junior category days. He also explained there could be opportunities to score points on Sunday, even though there are quicker cars starting behind him.

“Of course. And I think that we have a few cars which are quicker than us in the back. So we’ll just do our best for tomorrow.”
