Carlos Sainz, who’s been in the racing scene for nearly a decade, completely puts the blame on a rookie for a racing incident. Sainz has attributed the collision with Oscar Piastri during the Belgian GP to Piastri’s lack of experience racing at Spa. The incident occurred when Piastri attempted to make a move up the inside of Sainz, who was battling Lewis Hamilton for P3. Unfortunately, both drivers had to retire from the race as a result of the collision.

Sainz expressed his viewpoint on the incident, saying he didn’t anticipate Piastri attempting such an “optimistic” move, considering the challenging nature of the inside line at Turn One in Spa. He believed that Piastri’s choice to go wide into the corner was risky, and in his years of racing at Spa, similar moves had often led to incidents or crashes. While Sainz acknowledged he saw Piastri in his mirrors and noticed him on the inside, he was primarily focused on his battle with Hamilton and didn’t expect Piastri to make the move at that moment.

Despite the stewards deeming it a racing incident, Sainz’s opinion was that it could be attributed to a lack of experience on Piastri’s part. However, it is important to note that both the drivers’ races came to a short stop due to the collision. Which could be why Sainz seemed so upset about the whole ordeal.

Oscar Piastri, on the other hand, seemed pretty calm and labeled the touch-and-go as a racing incident. Which shows the level of maturity displayed in his candor.

The Fans vs. Carlos Sainz

The incident between Oscar Piastri and Carlos Sainz has ignited some heated discussions after the adrenaline-pumping event. Piastri, in his post-race statement, said, “I had a good launch and got to Carlos’ back wheel. He jinked quite hard to the right, locked up and I had to take a bit of avoidance from that and then by that point I was kind of still there, and with how I had to get out of the brakes it was quite hard to then back out of it fully.”

On the other hand, Sainz’s post-race remarks have caused a bit of a stir. Blaming Piastri entirely might come across as unfair. Here are some fan reactions that blow Sainz’s defense completely out of the water.
