The 2023 livery launches were a big topic of debate for fans across the Formula 1 world. Fans were disappointed with cars looking similar to their 2022 counterparts and many raved about the drastic changes to some. However, these reactions and opinions to the 2023 challengers were not conclusive and or consolidated. This changed after the official F1 Twitter handle decided to put things to a vote. The vote might’ve revealed the fans’ opinions. However, some fans still did not agree with the vote, especially when it came to Lewis Hamilton-led Mercedes.
Mercedes rolled back the years with an all-black livery for the 2023 season. Mercedes experimented with the all-black design in 2020 first and did it again in 2021. However, Mercedes boss, Toto Wolff explained the driving factor for the 2023 design wasn’t diversity. Instead, the 2023 design’s driving force is weight management and performance.

This is why the team back in Brackley decided to not paint the car and let the carbon fiber show, making it an all-black car. The fans loved the all-black design and most even requested it as the Mercedes admin showcased in a tweet.

However, as it turns out, it was only the Silver, albeit black now, Arrows’ fanbase that loved the all-black livery. When the F1 page on Twitter revealed the votes, the fans were not in agreement.
Debate erupted among the fans as the top three were revealed and some even called the Mercedes livery “Ugly AP”.

Hamilton appreciated the all-black livery at the unveiling of the W14. The Brit even said it looked like they “mean business”. However, not many fans agree with this narrative apart from the Mercedes and Hamilton fans.
Mercedes livery is one of the worst. Cool in the render but on the track it'll be ugly af with this carbon fiber

Oh dear, how did a team that couldn’t even be bother to design a livery come first 🤣🤣

Everyone that voted Mercedes. Please name 1 good thing about the livery. Is it the lack of design ? The lack of colour that everyone complains about on every other car or is it that there is a clear line in the middle of the engine cover splitting the black from the carbon ?

Some fans questioned the others to point out one thing that stands out from the W14 questing their vote. The minimal black paint and exposed carbon fiber aren’t to everyone’s liking.
Mercedes bots, a classic.

Some fans even blamed the Mercedes and Hamilton fanaticism for the biased vote.
How’s that even possible. It’s just bare carbon and a blue line 😂. Alfa Romeo and Ferrari were 1/2, Merc was bottom with Williams.

The fans are complaining about the basic “livery-less design” and the vote isn’t changing anyone’s mind. There is only one way for Mercedes to win the fans over, with exceptional performances.
