Max Verstappen suffered one of the biggest heartbreaks of this season, as the Dutchman will not be completing the race at Baku despite leading the way until lap 48. Similar to Lance Stroll, the Red Bull driver, too, suffered a rear-left tire failure, which left Verstappen wrecking his car into the wall on the main straight.
With Sergio Perez holding onto P2 and defending well against Lewis Hamilton, it looked like Verstappen could further extend his championship lead by 11 more points, considering he was holding onto the fastest lap point at that time as well.
However, the tables turned quite drastically and could potentially leave a massive dent in the Dutchman’s hopes of winning the championship this season. Why, you might ask?

It is quite known that the Mercedes driver has been flawless on the track over the past few seasons.
Hence, Verstappen will need to pull off some incredible racing over the subsequent race weekends.
Is Pirelli likely to investigate the incident?
Earlier in the race, Stroll was enjoying an incredible run starting on a set of hard tires. The Canadian climbed his way up to P4 and was lapping quite well as opposed to the others on much fresher tires.
However, out of nowhere, his rear-left tire gave up with no signs of blistering whatsoever, as Stroll crashed into the barriers at over 200mph. A similar story unfolded for Verstappen, who was under no pressure from either his teammate Perez or his title rival, Hamilton.
Verstappen suffered a little niggle following the rear tire failure. Hence, considering the speed at which the Red Bull car was pacing, there was almost zero chance for Verstappen to bring the car back under control.
Considering the similarities in the two incidents, Pirelli will be itching to take a look at the tires in a bid to analyze what went wrong.
