Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel may be huge rivals out on the track, but there has always been a great deal of respect between the two multiple championship winners. The news that Vettel was set to join Aston Martin for 2021 greatly pleased Hamilton.

Hamilton felt that Vettel made the right decision for the next stage in his career. The Briton said, “Honestly I thought that was the ideal direction that he was going to go to. I thought that it would happen.

“I was really pleased to hear it because that team has new ownership, has already taken a huge step forward in its performance and it will continue to grow.”

The move certainly benefits both Vettel and Aston Martin. For the latter, it gives him a chance to get back to competing at the front of the grid, racing for podiums and perhaps even wins. For the latter, they get an incredibly experienced and talented driver who has been there and done that. Vettel is the best bet to take Aston Martin to the next level.

What Lewis Hamilton thinks Sebastian Vettel can give to Aston Martin

Lewis said, “Maybe I’m biased, but I believe that experience counts for a huge amount. He’s obviously had a difficult time at Ferrari. But he’s a four-time world champion that can steer that team even further, in a better direction in terms of car development. I think you should never take that for granted. It’s a great move for the team.”

Obviously, Vettel’s inclusion at Aston Martin comes at the cost of Sergio Perez. The Mexican suddenly finds himself in the very same position that Vettel was in not a long time ago. Checo was not very pleased with the immediacy of Racing Point’s decision but Hamilton backs him to find a drive in F1.

Perez could certainly find a seat at Haas or Alfa Romeo next season. But before he leaves Racing Point he would love to notch up another podium under his belt. Perhaps the upcoming race in Mugello could offer him that chance?
