“I’ve Not Saved Anybody” – Lewis Hamilton Weighs in on the Knighthood Debate

Lewis Hamilton secured his 2020 championship title in style at the Turkish Grand Prix. He soared to the win as he equaled Michael Schumacher’s record of 7 World Championships. Starting from P6, it was a tough race for the Briton.

However, the champion made 0 errors as he kept climbing positions displaying his patience and racecraft. Lewis eventually won the race by a significant margin. Sergio Perez and Sebastian Vettel followed him, claiming their first podium of the season.

During the FIA post-race press conference, Hamilton was asked what it would mean for him to be honored with Knighthood in England.

He first acknowledged the stature of such an honor. He then added, “It’s not something that I think about, it’s not something that I… I’ve got a lot of work to do.”

Lewis Hamilton explains his feelings about representing his Nation

Talking about the prospect of getting Knighted, Lewis Hamilton pointed out that it is an incredible honor. He said, “I think when I think about that honor, I think about people like my grandad who served in the war, I think about Sir Captain Tom who got knighted and waited a hundred years for that incredible honor.”

He pointed out that there are several heroes out there that are not visible; the ones saving people every day. He explained, “The people that are running hospitals, the nurses and doctors who are saving lives during the hardest time ever.

“I think about those unsung heroes and I don’t look at myself as an unsung hero. I’ve not saved anybody.”

However, the Briton clarified that he is incredibly proud of his heritage and happy to represent his country. “I am a very proud Brit and that, as I said before, this really is like the most special moment to be able to represent… to be up there representing a nation. Having the flag over your head, over number one, that is such an incredible honor.”

Lewis Hamilton is on a mission to do more than just race in the future. The champion stated that he still feels young and believes that his job is not yet done in Formula 1. The Briton is on a bigger mission.

However, it is certain that he will be back for 2021. It will be exciting to see Lewis Hamilton fight for the 8th championship title. For records are meant to be broken, not equaled.
