Sebastian Vettel finally put up a show and clinched his first podium of the season. With 7 no-points finishes, the German was having a forgettable season so far. The Rhinelander came close to a podium at Imola, but a 13.5-second-long pit stop catastrophe denied him that finish.
He started the race at P12 and was fighting for P3 against Charles Leclerc. His teammate was at P3, just behind Sergio Perez.
With a few corners to go, the Monegasque made a move on Sergio Perez. However, he went wide of the track and that offered Vettel an opening to overtake Leclerc.

Leclerc lost out a podium finish to Sebastian Vettel at the last corner of the race. Leclerc was absolutely furious with himself. He cursed himself and apologized to the team. But Leclerc also congratulated Vettel on his podium and acknowledged how difficult this season has been for the German.
In the FIA post-match conference, Vettel was asked how the last two corners will affect the dynamics between the two. He replied, “Probably irrelevant, to be honest, I think. I think I’m mature enough, I never let this kind of stuff really heat up and get between us”
Sebastian Vettel states he sees himself in Leclerc
Sebastian Vettel has fond memories of Turkey. He secured a podium here in 2009 and also a win in 2011. The German explained,
“Looking back to many many years ago, I think having Charles as a teammate, I often see myself in him as well. He’s a lot younger, he’s very quick.”
He further explained that Leclerc has many years in front of him and many podiums. He said, “I haven’t had the chance to talk to him yet – but I will tell him later that being on the podium or not actually is a bit irrelevant for him because he has so many years ahead of him.
