Esteban Ocon has the reputation of being an aggressive driver who didn’t get along well with his teammates. His reputation came to light following his altercation with Pierre Gasly at Albert Park. The most recent incident also demonstrated the Frenchman’s hypocrisy since, while on one hand, he showed mercy to Gasly, on the other, he once claimed that Sergio Perez‘s accident with him at a race in 2017 was a plot by the Mexican driver to kill Alonso.
During the lap 57 mayhem, in order to escape the chaos, Pierre Gasly, who was immediately behind the commotion, out-braked himself and moved to the gravel. However, in his haste, Gasly neglected to look into the available space, which caused him to collide rashly with teammate Esteban Ocon and put an end to the Alpine driver’s race. Ironically, Ocon has been crashing into his teammates before, so this wasn’t a new occurrence.
Some of them were revealed on the late Braking F1 podcast, where the hosts were talking about the collision and how both drivers were lucky that the FIA didn’t punish them. When Ocon appeared for the interviews following the Australian GP race, he discussed how Gasly had apologized for what occurred and ultimately let it go by saying “It could have been anyone .”

The hosts also discussed how the Frenchman claimed that Sergio Perez had attempted to “kill” him back when they were teammates at Racing Point in 2017. At that time, the Force India drivers collided twice at Spa, the first time between La Source and Eau Rouge, and the second time later in the race, when Perez sustained a flat tire and Ocon suffered damage to his front wing. Ocon criticized Perez’s driving as being unprofessional, especially after the second.
The Host while pointing out the double standards of the Frenchman said, “I saw the interview with Esteban Ocon afterward bearing in mind this man once tweeted that Perez tried to kill him, angriest Man in Formula One, and he and then he last year tried to kill Alonso about three times. He was like ohh yeah happens. I’m like there’s no way that that is that is just your reaction that someone is taking as you say into a room then they’ve had to apologize and whatever,”
The accident involving the alpine drivers has generated a lot of debate. However throughout Ocon’s career, this has remained a constant, and the Red Flag hosts have recently given Ocon some thought. The Host believes the Frenchman’s issues with his teammate will never end.
Do Esteban Ocon’s issues with teammates seem intractable?
Only 12 cars were left for the final lap shootout due to the tragedy on the Melbourne track. But among them, Alpine had suffered the largest losses. Gasly never would have imagined that a seemingly minor action would lead to the team’s disappointment.
The host of the Red Flag podcast acknowledged that Gasly made the error, but he also lambasted Ocon for being a terrible teammate when speaking on the Red Flag podcast. The speaker believes Ocon’s problem with his teammates is a persistent issue.
He said, “Ocon is the best driver I think maybe in the sport. Except with his fucking teammates. Then he f**king puts his nose in there and keeps his foot in and is a complete belligerent a**hole. I think because I think so highly of Ocon in terms of like actually coz…Here is the thing. Ocon isn’t like these other guys. He doesn’t drive emotionally.”
