Christian Horner and Toto Wolff had an intense rivalry throughout the 2021 season. Both team bosses went hard against each other and latched onto every mistake by the other. On most occasions, it was a heated battle in the press rooms between the two.

Both of them vehemently defended their respective charges, Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen, every step of the way. But in their pursuit, they often threw shade at each other that would lend a psychological blow.

In light of this, Toto Wolff’s wife Susie on the Drive to Survive episode 9 mentioned that she understands the animosity of Horner towards her husband.

Mercedes and Toto Wolff have dominated the sport since the start of the turbo-hybrid era in 2014. They have won every single constructors’ championship since then and also won every driver’s title barring 2021, where Max got the better of Lewis.

Susie attributed Wolff’s success in the past couple of years to Horner’s animosity towards him. But she condoned the manner in which the Red Bull team boss was attacking Toto throughout the season.

” I can completely understand, Christian. You know, he’s watched Toto winning for so many years. It’s clear that causes a certain resentment, and that’s competition. You know, it can get tough. It can get ugly.

Sport is brutal. You need to be ruthless, competitive. But I don’t believe that to become successful you need to be an A**hole” said Susie.

There were certainly some strong comments from Susie Wolff towards Christian Horner. The rivalry between Horner and Wolff had surely boiled over on many occasions last season. And both team bosses lost their cool on more than one occasion in the heat of the competition and the battle for the championship. Hopefully, both of them will be more cordial towards each other in the 2022 season if they compete against each other.
