The world laughed at Lewis Hamilton, pointing towards his “mistake” for moving to an inexperienced outfit Mercedes from the iconic team McLaren. However, as fate intended, the British driver and the Silver Arrows changed the face of the sport forever. If someone time-travels to 2023 from three years ago, they wouldn’t believe the tattered state of the German team. And an ex-Ferrari legend had blamed the Mercedes Boss for Lewis Hamilton’s misfortunes.
The mighty 8x winners interpreted the 2022 regulation changes incorrectly. First, for the 2022 campaign, they rallied a radical zero side pod design which obviously failed miserably, ending their streak of octa titles. Last year’s challenger became a joke for its porpoising issues and while that seems corrected this year, that is the only issue that is corrected as this year’s machine hasn’t been able to bring the glory back. And a 10x GP winner thinks Toto Wolff is at the center of the issue.
As quoted by Krone, Gerhard Berger stated, “It is always easier to read a book backwards. Toto Wolff believed too much in his engineers, but the 2022 concept didn’t work. You have to say now, build a new car. Because they can’t wait until mid-season to get going. Because then the championship is over.”

While the destruction of 2023 title hope lay with Toto Wolff’s blind trust in the team has been called out, Lewis Hamilton, the man himself, has been calling out his team.

The loyal Hamilton sacrificed his 2022 campaign collecting data, getting beaten by George Russell, and accepting that making a go at his eighth title wasn’t going to be a reality soon. However, despite all of this, his team didn’t accept his feedback.
Hamilton told BBC Radio 5 Live’s Chequered Flag podcast about his feedback last year. He said, “Last year, there were things I told them. I said the issues that are with the car. I’ve driven so many cars in my life so I know what a car needs. I know what a car doesn’t need. I think it’s really about accountability. It’s about owning up and saying, Yeah, you know what? We didn’t listen to you. It’s not where it needs to be and we’ve got to work,” he said.
