Mercedes has slowly become the powerhouse of Formula 1. The team went on an unprecedented spree of winning 8 constructors’ championship titles. One of the key men in that dominance is their CEO, Toto Wolff. The Austrian has empowered a winning mentality in the team. Additionally, having Lewis Hamilton drive for them doesn’t hurt their cause either.

Winning is something everyone at Mercedes is obsessed about. Winning titles at Mercedes is not an objective, it’s a necessity. They’ve won titles with Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, while they’ve also celebrated winning races with Valtteri Bottas.

In a recent podcast with the Performance People, Toto and Susie Wolff talk about how he wants other people in his team to become leaders and instill the confidence in others. Furthermore, he even gave the reference from Christian Horner’s wife Geri Halliwell’s iconic hit ‘Wannabe’ to explain his point.

Toto said, “There’s a Spice Girl song that has this sentence, ‘tell me really, tell me what you really really want’ and it is what you need to say as a leader, and what your leaders should say to their people. It is what we want to achieve, what’s the objective? I leave it to you because you’re the expert to deliver your part and deliver to the overall objective.”

He further added, “If you can kind of buy into this, people feel empowered, people are in a safer place. You can have tough conversations that we call tough love.”
