According to Peter Windsor, this is where Mercedes boss Toto Wolff losing the on-track battle to Red Bull thanks to boss Christian Horner. Secondly, this is exactly why Wolff needs to thank Lewis Hamilton for sticking by.

Wolff’s nemesis Christina Horner has exceptional people skills and he is using that to his benefit keeping his Red Bull team intact, at least the essential personnel. This is where Wolff has failed and let his Mercedes behind-the-scenes stars leave. In fact, Wolff is currently in a potential ongoing tussle with the one man who has stuck by him and who he should thank, Lewis Hamilton.

The Austrian boss is among the oldest serving team principals on the grid. The reason no one has ever even questioned his position in the team is because of the unparalleled success Mercedes has achieved under his leadership. However, according to Hamilton, he is much more than a boss who got lucky for almost a decade. Hamilton gave his personal insight into Wolff’s leadership skills which makes him unique.

“He is very focused as a leader on improving people and make them calm. I don’t know of any other leaders, at least among those I’ve worked with, who go and say, ‘Hey, how are things at home? How can I help you, so that you have more time with your wife, husband or partner, children, so that you come to work and are happier and want to try harder? This is what Toto is. So I guess that’s why there’s a lot of hunger within the team,” revealed Hamilton.

The personal relationship might’ve been coming in the way of Hamilton’s contract extension. However, the fact Hamiton has stuck around and worked with the team to rectify the mistakes of 2022 is also proof of their strong relationship.
