The Monaco Grand Prix will always stay special to the sport, as it generates an amazing amount of interest from across the globe. In 2022 it will provide an opportunity for teams like Mercedes who have found their lost vigor recently. Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff gave a preview of the weekend for the German team.

Interestingly, the world champions have not dominated the streets of Monaco as they have on other tracks. Since 2013, they have won only 4 races at the track courtesy of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. But Wolff is confident that they can perform well this weekend.

The streets of principality have not been the strong suit of the world champions in previous seasons. But with an improved package and upgrades on their car, they can certainly hope for a stronger result this weekend. Wolff too is excited to see if they can continue to build on their Spanish GP outing.

” We quickly move on to the next race. Nothing quite rivals the glitz of Monaco, and it’s a true joy to see the drivers pushing their cars to the limit, threading their way through the narrow streets,” said Toto.
“Monaco hasn’t always been our happiest track, and slow-speed corners haven’t been our strength this season as we saw in Barcelona. But we’ve seen so far this year that anything can happen and we’ll be looking to maximize every opportunity,” said the Mercedes team boss.

The German team had a dismal outing in Monaco last season where Hamilton finished in P7 while Bottas retired from the race. They would first hope that they can be on par with their rivals in terms of qualifying pace on Saturday.

Last weekend in Spain, Mercedes found their groove for the first time this season as they challenged for both pole position and win at the weekend. Wolff was pleased to see the upturn in performance from his team in Barcelona.
“We were treated to a thrilling Spanish Grand Prix last weekend and for us, there was a lot of encouragement to take from it. It was fantastic to see George battling with the Red Bulls to earn a well-deserved podium finish, while Lewis’ fight back through the field from P19 to P5 was incredibly impressive,” said Toto.

It is certainly exciting to see a 3 horse race for the win in Monaco. But there won’t be much overtaking on the track to secure a good result on Sunday. So the German team would hope that they have a fast car in qualifying that can enable them to start as high as possible.
