Mercedes have traditionally been associated with the silver color. What’s more, their distinct liveries earned them the moniker of the Silver Arrows.

However, for the 2020 season, the World Champions switched to black livery as a stand against racism and bigotry. They also pledged to build on the diversity on their team.

Mercedes announced the black livery amid global protests around the world in support of racial justice. Lewis Hamilton was the first Formula 1 athlete who campaigned against this social evil.

Mercedes have used the platform of Formula One to speak up for respect and equality. They decided to race in black to show their commitment towards a desire to bring in greater diversity within the sport and their team.

Hamilton explained, “We want to build a legacy that goes beyond sport, and if we can be the leaders and can start building more diversity within our own business, it will send such a strong message and give others the confidence to begin a dialogue about how they can implement change.”
