Romain Grosjean was hospitalized after a fiery crash at the first Bahrain Grand Prix. He missed the Sakhir Grand Prix race last weekend because of injuries sustained. He will also be missing the last race of the season at Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The Frenchman lost control of his car during the starting lap of the circuit and darted into the barriers. His car split into two halves and burst into a fireball. He sustained some burns on his hands and ankles but is discharged from the hospital now.

“What I heard is that he did not want to finish his Formula 1 career with an accident,” said Toto Wolff. “What I said is that if he doesn’t have a drive in Formula 1, and if none of his previous teams, Renault or Haas, would give him a drive, then he could try our machine at a circuit we decide, and maybe he is keen for a Mercedes,” Wolff further explained.

The regulations around Abu Dhabi testing are very strict. If Romain Grosjean is permitted to drive for the testing session, it is unlikely that he will complete in the current car. However, the Formula 1 community would like to bid the Frenchman a good farewell from the sport, even if it is with him crossing the chequered flag driving a dated technology.
