Sebastian Vettel is perhaps the nicest F1 Driver of all time. A caring person and a social activist. Yet, when it came to racing, the German completely transformed into an aggressive beast, especially during the Red Bull and Ferrari days. In 2016 during the Ferrari days, Sebastian Vettel gave Daniil Kvyat a nickname that stuck with him throughout his F1 career. After 7 long years of wait, Daniil Kvyat got the opportunity to get back at the German for that very moment and he did with a two-word nickname.
Daniil Kvyat is most remembered for losing the Red Bull seat and underperforming in it. The Russian driver also had some crashes during the 2016 season. The crashes or dangerous driving, as many call it, earned him the nickname “Torpedo”. After going up the inside of Sebastian Vettel on Lap 1 of the 2016 Chinese GP, Kvyat did not leave Vettel much room, which meant Vettel crashed into his teammate in a desperate attempt to avoid a collision. The German managed to claw his way up and finish on the podium.

In the cooldown room, Kvyat made the mistake of asking Vettel what happened on Lap 1 and the furious German lashed out at him, suggesting Kvyat dive-bombed him like a torpedo. During the latest episode of the track limit podcast, the hosts discussed the incident with Daniil Kvyat and asked him what he thought about the nickname. The Russian suggested it didn’t mean anything. The hosts then asked Kvyat to give Vettel a nickname and, he called him a “Professional Screamer”
According to the Track Limits, Podcast the host said, “I think a year later in 2016 obviously, Chinese GP, Seb nicknamed you the torpedo. When he said that what did you think of that, what did you think of the nickname when it started to spread around the paddock?” Kvyat replied, “It didn’t mean much. We just had a discussion in the podium room and that’s how it went.” When asked to give Vettel a nickname, he replied, “I don’t know, a professional screamer or something “
Kvyat strikes back by calling the German a professional screamer, pointing toward how Vettel screamed at him in the cooldown room. Chinese GP was not the only time Kvyat compromised Vettel’s race as he crashed him out in the following Russian GP as well. Unfortunately, the two did not have a mediator between them to solve the issue but Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly do have one.

Otmar Szafnauer played a masterstroke as he made an attempt to settle things between his drivers after the Albert Park tragedy. Instead of blaming either Pierre Gasly or Esteban Ocon for the crash, the Alpine TP pointed fingers towards how most of the drivers were going off the track and /or crashing. He made the statement in a way that questions the FIA regarding the red flag and standing restart decision.
According to the F1 Nation Podcast, Otmar Szafnauer said, “It wasn’t just our drivers who came together. I saw a picture of the restart and it seemed like the others were pointing the wrong way, across the track, off the track and I think the caption was best drivers in the world all over the place. That’s what happens when you have a standing restart with just a few laps to go.”
