The first pit stop of the three GPs to be held in the States is here. Last year, before the Miami GP, Lewis Hamilton had vocalized his thoughts over the Roe versus Wade reversal, which was pointing at abortion rights being taken away from women. And this year the man just has his ‘usual’ agenda and a bone to pick with the Florida Lawmakers who okayed the “Don’t Say Gay” Bill.

In the day and age where the world looks towards the United States as an example of the upliftment of rights and the unimaginable freedom to be yourself, last year Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ Republican administration enacted a gagging educational legislation. A ban on all kinds of discussions of sexual orientation, especially relating to LGBTQ issues, was imposed. And the worst of all is the threat of withdrawal of professional license the educators face for non-compliance. And this development has clearly not sat well with Hamilton, who has always been a vocal proponent of rights.

As quoted by Motorsports-Total, Lewis said, “I’ve read about the decisions that the government has made here. I don’t agree with them and I don’t support them. I remain with the LGBTQ community and want them to know that I will continue to fight against it.”

Hamilton clarified: “It’s not the people in Miami who make decisions like this, it’s the people in government. That’s the problem. As long as I ride here, I will continue to get involved by wearing this symbol on my helmet. I hope that expresses how I think.”

And as I had mentioned, the LGBTQ agenda is a usual one for Lewis because he has not even shied away to take it forward in countries where he could have been jailed for it.

One such location was Qatar. He took an iconic stance and used his first-place finish in 2021 as a platform to vocalize the equality agenda. While celebrating milestone moments with Mercedes after completing 10 years at the Brackley outfit, Lewis went down memory lane. A picture from Qatar was one of the few he picked to take us through the story behind them.

For me, it’s mind-blowing that we live in a time still where there are so many countries around the world but you know particularly a lot of Human Rights issues within the Middle East, women’s rights LGBT rights, and there are laws that restrict people from being their true selves and I’m just I’ve always been a risk taker and like I’m gonna do this whether or not they’re gonna throw me in jail I don’t care what they’re going to do I’m gonna stand for something that I believe in even if it kills me.”
