As we head down to the second last race of the season, some memories creep in from the previous edition, not just among the fans, but among the drivers as well. Max Verstappen proved that in the first practice session of the Brazilian GP at turn 4. The same turn 4, he ran wide-on alongside Lewis Hamilton in 2021.

The turn itself is a tricky corner. Right before turn 4 called Descida do Lago, the drivers are met with Reta Oposta, the track’s longest straight. The high speeds from Reta Oposta lead toward the downhill left turn of Descida do Lago or turn 4. This often leads to drivers going off track.
However, what if we couple this turn’s DNA with two drivers fighting for the ultimate F1 glory in the second to last race of the season? We, the fans, have ourselves some incredible racing drama. Thanks to the 2021 bout between Hamilton and Verstappen, this is exactly what happened in the last half of the Brazilian GP in 2021.
This is far from the case in the current season, with Verstappen having already secured the championship. However, Verstappen’s muscle memory from 2021 kicked in during the current campaign’s FP1 season.
The Red Bull man, during the FP1, went wide unprovoked at turn 4. The Dutchman caught the same racing line as he did during his defense in 2021 against the charging Mercedes of Hamilton.

Now, we are all aware of how the Twitter fandom keeps a keen eye on the track throughout a Grand Prix weekend. So it was no surprise when the fans caught Verstappen’s wide line at turn 4 as well.
Fans react to Max Verstappen going wide at turn 4 reminiscent of the 2021 bout against Lewis Hamilton
Fans caught Verstappen going wide and instantly started comparing the incident to the 2021 race. We can call it poor timing on Verstappen’s part. But, the Dutchman is being accused of going wide because of a reflex action of Lewis Hamilton’s last year’s overtaking attempt.

We wonder how long will this banter last. But will this be the last time the Dutchman goes wide at turn 4 in Interlagos?
