Remember when Sebastian Vettel was booed for dominating the F1 season in the early 2010s? One might as well go on to suggest that the boos are only accompanied when someone is actually succeeding at something. Nevertheless, a Former Dutch Touring driver recently suggest the Dutch Camp’s classy gestures towards Lewis Hamilton after the things that went down with Max Verstappen in Miami. Let’s find out what all was said.

Max Verstappen won the Miami GP convincingly putting Sergio Perez’s championship dream on hold. The Dutchman started P9 and won the race comfortably, being faster than Checo on older tires. Verstappen’s dominance very much resembles Sebastian Vettel’s dominating Red Bull. Verstappen also received a lot of boos for his dominating performance at the Miami GP post race and middle fingers were shown to him as well.

Nevertheless, during the post-race conference, the 25-year-old suggested that he is not affected by any of this as long as he’s winning. Verschuur then praised the Dutch fans explaining how they support Max rather than booing and/or distracting other drivers like Lewis Hamilton.

According to GPfans.com, Frans Verschuur said, “Of course, it is a bit fed by the English press. Things like that are not good. Max is of course not Tom Cruise or anything. How should I say it? He is not a hero, because he doesn’t care at all. Those middle fingers don’t interest him. What we have to be careful about is that we are not going to do this in the Netherlands. To Hamilton, or to other riders. We should support him, our hero, in that and absolutely not whistle when Hamilton or anyone else is on stage. We all have to cheer and not make it football.”

Verschuur gives the football reference, where chants are used to boo the teams and players. Nevertheless, all this takes the grace away from the sport, making it a somewhat hostile environment for everyone. Nevertheless, Verstappen responded to the boos in a very respectful way.

The current champion leader remained respectful by suggesting that it does not matter to him as long as he is the one who’s winning. He explained how people would not have booed if he was losing. He concluded by implying that he takes the trophy home and the people who booed him can have a nice evening.

According to Skysports.com, Max Verstappen said, “If I were driving in the back nobody would be doing anything in terms of reaction. I think it is normal when you are winning and they don’t like who is winning. It is something for me which is absolutely fine as long as I am standing on the top. To me, the most important thing is I take the trophy home and they go back to their houses and they can… have a nice evening.”
