A newcomer came to a team that was winning back-to-back championships and outperformed the multiple-time champion when the team saw a slump due to changed regulations. While that may seem like a story of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton, this is actually what happened when Daniel Ricciardo arrived at Red Bull in 2014 and began outperforming Sebastian Vettel. Very soon, Vettel parted ways with Milton Keynes, but Ricciardo stayed to watch the glory unfold with seven GP wins. However, is that enough to be called “the best in the world”?

The fans have answered it in negative. As the same man who used to be at the top of F1, never really saw any glory again post his departure from Red Bull. While he still remains the only driver to have won a GP for McLaren, his stay at the Woking outfit remained an extremely underwhelming one. This led to him being left without an F1 seat for 2023. However, the man does accept part responsibility for the misfortune.

According to Speedcafe, the Aussie stated, “I’ll always take some responsibility or accountability,” he stated, admitting he was also responsible for the forgettable McLaren stint. He went on to add, “For many years, I truly believed I was the best, and I am the best in the world, so whatever the situation, I’ll be able to overcome it. And obviously, with McLaren, it was tough for me to do that.”

And the words, “best in the world” stood out for fans when they got irked by a man with zero WDC calling himself the best.

Fans call out Daniel Ricciardo for making tall claims

Was Daniel the best in the world? The man claimed that there hasn’t ever been a time where he has left a win on the table but in recent times we have only seen him falling prey to difficult cars. And while McLarens are a peculiar drive, the Honey Badger never quite remained the same. But he does admit to the immodesty and F1 Twitter like always has been the first to call him out.
