Being a black man in a sport normally dominated by white people, Lewis Hamilton is keen to bring up the plight of black people. The recent death of George Floyd appeared to be the tipping point and it fuelled Hamilton’s desire to raise awareness.

He recently took to Instagram when he posted a picture of a toddler garbed in Ku Klux Klan wear, meeting some policemen. Generally, children are very innocent at a young age, so they cannot process feelings of hatred towards others. So, he was understandably disappointed to see that toddlers are being initiated into the cruel ways of racism.

What did Lewis Hamilton say about the picture?

The 6-time world champion wrote, “This is sickening. This shouldn’t happen but is happening around the world, parents passing on their hate, their fears and beliefs.”

He declared that the entire system of education needs to change, especially how people teach their children. Once this happens, they won’t be able to learn hate and continue to be ‘loving kindred spirits’.

Hamilton and several other drivers have all spoken out against Floyd’s death and the subject of racism. Aside from the Briton, NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace is yet another driver who has been deeply affected. Ahead of a race in Atlanta, he wore a Black Lives Matter t-shirt under his racing overalls.

Unfortunately, the sport that they are in, has always been dominated by white drivers. Luckily, Hamilton is one of the few people to be successful in that field. Wallace is not as fast or dominant as his fellow black driver, but he is a talented racer. Both of them have been very outspoken on the USA’s social issues.
