In 2023, Formula One will race in Las Vegas for the first time in 40 years. The sport announced its comeback to the city to make a third stop in the USA next season. Recently, Alpine duo Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso got an opportunity to see how the track will look like.

Alonso was surprised at the high-speed nature of the track while Ocon mentioned that they might need to run Monza level wing in Vegas. “It’s going to be super fast. I thought it was much slower and I’m surprised about the speed that you will get on those. I thought it was more like Baku, the style, with a lot of corners and maybe one long straight. But this is all straights,” said Alonso.

Ocon predicts that the 2023 cars might even touch 370km/h on the track. “They predict 342, but that’s alone, 360, 370 with tows and DRS,” said the French driver.

There have been a lot of concerns with the sport adding so many races recently. Many drivers and F1 personnel have complained about having too many races on the calendar in the future.

Alonso too stated that the sport need find a limit on the number of races it can hold in a season. But he welcomed the decision to race in Miami and Las Vegas.

“I think we need to be careful with the number of races, which I think we need to we should agree on a limit because I think for the teams, it’s quite demanding, how the schedule and the calendar is now, especially that we don’t have so many races in Europe anymore. So, I think that’s the only concern if we keep adding races,” said the Alpine driver.

It would be interesting to see what the future holds for F1 after the 2023 season. There will surely be some changes to the calendar to accommodate the Las Vegas GP in the 2023 season. It is yet to be announced which race will be dropped for the next season, but France and Spa are the races in danger as of now.
