F1 has been growing at a phenomenal speed for the past few years. A major contributor to the growth of the sport has been Netflix’s documentary, Drive to Survive, which allowed fans a closer look into the lives of the drivers and teams they adore. And the growth shows as F1 released its calendar for 2023, which is going to be the longest season by the number of races. But it’s the Las Vegas GP that has attracted the most attention.

The 2021 and 2022 seasons were crucial for F1. With COVID-19 having hit in 2020, the sport ran the risk of being majorly affected as fans could not watch in person, countries had placed travel restrictions, and most of all, the safety of drivers and team members.
But F1 made it through 2020 and then it reaped the benefits of the Netflix documentary in 2021 and 2022. Both seasons had 22 races, the highest in history, which meant more exposure and more revenue for the sport. The documentary had tapped into a new fanbase, and now F1 could tap that fanbase for more revenue.
2023 is going to be a continuation of that momentum. With 24 races, it is the longest and most hectic schedule in the history of F1, with Las Vegas making its debut in F1. Apart from Las Vegas, there will be 2 other GPs in the USA making it the first time that the country is hosting 3 GPs in the same season.
FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem said, “The presence of 24 races on the 2023 FIA Formula One World Championship calendar is further evidence of the growth and appeal of the sport on a global scale.”
It has been a phenomenal period of growth for the sport despite the problems COVID-19 provided. But the FIA will have to stay on its toes to maintain the growth.
Fans flock to The Strip as F1 makes debut with the Las Vegas GP
Las Vegas is known as Sin City for very obvious reasons, and the city has, for long, been a strong magnet for tourism. Introducing a new GP in Vegas has turned out to be a masterstroke from the FIA. How do we know that? The hotel ticket prices show!
With a little over a year before the inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix F1 race, hotel room rates for the Las Vegas Strip are beginning to be published.
For the rates available, Las Vegas Now is already seeing an average of nearly 285% increase. #F1 #VegasGP pic.twitter.com/2DeqWthffZ

Fans had their own say on the matter.
The rate at which @F1 is pricing itself out of the range of its fans and straight into a bougie experience for the people who won't talk to @MBrundleF1 on the grid is sickening. https://t.co/HhEww4LJKv

F1 need to stop making all the American races "rich people races". Go to some purpose built tracks there and give the Americans some proper F1 races that the commoners can go to. More like COTA https://t.co/h33NVJDi6c

And these are just random rooms. Imagine the ones actually facing the track… https://t.co/s4ddJHNtSq

No surprises here. Shit happens with every major sporting events. Hotels around Indy in May are between 200-400% higher than off-peak months. Supply and demand. https://t.co/SKGWTre0gg
