After a disappointing 2022 season, Haas showed Mick Schumacher the exit door. The Haas snub proved to be a brutal reality check for Mick as no other team came forward to offer him a regular driver’s role. The Mercedes third driver has now hit back at his former employers reminding them of his past laurels.

In his first year with Haas, Mick Schumacher overtook teammate Nikita Mazepin in terms of total points. The German however failed to replicate that with Kevin Magnussen in 2022. While the lack of point-scoring ability was disappointing, it was his habit of wrecking the car too often that was more of a matter of concern.

Mick Schumacher feels he is capable of championship wins

Mick Schumacher made his debut in F1 after proving his racing abilities in F1’s feeder series. He won the F3 European Championship in 2018 and the F3 championship in 2020. The proven track record earned him a Haas seat alongside Nikita Mazepin as the duo replaced Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean in the same year. While Nikita’s time with the American team lasted only 1 year, Mick’s did for 2.

Recently speaking with The Race, Mick said, “I am a Formula 2 and Formula 3 champion, I think people forget that right now.

“I’ve always proved myself in the sense that whatever category I’ve started in, I always got on top of it quite quickly.”

“So I do have a feeling I can get on top of Formula 1 in the sense that I am capable of winning the world championship at the right time, in the right car.”

Mick is currently playing the role of the third driver at Mercedes, the team his Michael Schumacher last raced for. While Schumacher Jr will stay away from regular action for at least a year, his uncle Ralf Schumacher feels it is a win-win situation for both him and the team.

Ralf believes the Mercedes role is a great opportunity for Mick

Mick’s uncle and former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher recently appeared for an interview with Sky Sports Germany. Ralf explained why he thought Mick’s move to Mercedes as the third driver of good for both sides.

“And the next is of course that he is now in the team where he can learn a lot, first of all through a new structure, a big structure.”

“For me, I think it’s a great opportunity because he now has an experienced team, with two experienced team-mates, and above all, for a change, a team that is happy that he is there.”
