Max Verstappen’s crash with arch-rival Lewis Hamilton at the recent Italian Grand Prix was another turning point in their rivalry. As the Mercedes driver was coming out of the pits, the Red Bull prodigy was zipping down the main straight, hoping to overtake him.
However, Hamilton wasn’t going to back down & neither was Verstappen. As the two title protagonists headed towards turn two, Verstappen hit the kerb and launched himself on top of the 7-times world champion, taking them both into the gravel and out of the race.
But, former Austrian racing driver, Alex Wurz thinks both were upset that they had terrible pitstops. Hence, they wanted to extend their lead in the race but were under immense pressure which and crashed.

Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen crashed due to pitstops, says Wurz
Pitstops can make or break a race, and that was the exact case with Hamilton and Verstappen at Monza. Both were in the pits for a prolonged period and were determined to make amends when they rejoined the pack of drivers on the track.
Hamilton was rejoining the track at the same time Max was coming down the main straight. Both were hoping to be in front. As Verstappen went for the gap that Hamilton had left, he hit the kerb and took himself and Lewis out of the race.
Hence, Alex Wurz said on Sky Sports, “There will be a conversation but you have to separate yourself from being in the car and making such decisions. They’re only humans, and they were angry, both of them because of bad pitstops and how the race unfolded, and you know you only have one opportunity.
“In this case maybe to an extent both cracked under this pressure and came together,” he concluded.
