Red Bull team principal Christian Horner believes Mercedes’ domination will come to an end in the near future. Horner backed his team to end the Brackley outfit’s undisputed reign over Formula 1 and become World Champions once again.
Horner backs Red Bull to end Mercedes’ winning streak
Mercedes has dominated the Turbo-hybrid era of Formula 1. The German team is unbeaten in the last 6 years and has won nearly 75% of all F1 races held since 2014. A scary statistic that highlights the juggernaut that Mercedes is.

The 2010s have really been defined by two teams dominating F1. The early part of the decade saw the rise of Red Bull as a constructor that morphed into an unbeatable entity. Many fans believed Red Bull’s winning steak would never end at the end of 2013.
Little did they know it would take only a single race that marked the beginning of a new chapter of utter supremacy in F1. Since 2014, Mercedes has won every single Championship that the sport has to offer.
Horner firmly feels Mercedes’s authority over F1 will draw to close in the near future and Red Bull will be the team that is responsible for the same. Speaking on the podcast In the Pink, Horner said:
“We went and did a load winning between 2010 and 2013 and then the hybrid formula came along”
“Introducing the new V6 turbocharged engines and Mercedes has just dominated from that point onwards”
“There are only two teams in the last 10 years that have Championships ourselves and Mercedes which is nuts when you think about”
“Sports goes in cycles and I’m determined that it’ll be this team that breaks that cycle ultimately”

“They can’t win everything forever”
F1’s next major regulation change kicks in from 2022. The newer regulations include a major focus on enabling cars to follow closely and promote overtaking.
While Horner’s claims sound ambitious, they’re not entirely improbable. Red Bull has been chipping away at Mercedes over the last few seasons. They might not be actively challenging for World Championships and race wins consistently but they’re getting there – slowly but surely.

Additionally, Honda is nearly on par with Mercedes when it comes to sheer pace. In their first year partnering up with Honda, Red Bull picked up 3 victories.
Should Honda continue its positive growth, Red Bull may very well be the team that conquers Mercedes’ winning streak.
