The 2022 F1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix did not hold as much excitement as the previous edition. However, the race in Abu Dhabi in a class below the premier class had a lot riding on for one driver. Not just the driver, but an entire nation was invested in the Formula 2 Abu Dhabi GP race. The nation of Williams’ newest driver, Logan Sargeant.

Everyone was aware that the vacant seat of Nicholas Latifi at Williams was Sargeant’s for months. However, Sargeant’s issue was the super license to secure which he had to score ample points in the race at Abu Dhabi. The American did exactly that and made the Williams’ seat his for the 2023 season.

According to Red Bull’s former driver Mark Webber, everyone was keen on seeing Sargeant make it to F1. Especially Liberty Media, as he is the first American driver since Alexander Rossi who last drove in 2015.

“I think Logan Sargeant,” confessed Mark Webber when asked about the 2023 lineups for the Williams’ seat in October.

“He’s in Formula 2 this year, he might need a bit of introducing to our fans at home. In general, I think he’s the favorite – American, Liberty [Media, F1’s owner] they are pretty keen on him. But there’s some Super Licence challenges around him in terms of points, championship position, in Abu Dhabi.”
