In the latest episode of the F1 Nation Podcast, 2012 GP2 Series champion Davide Valsecchi talks about the 2020 season for Ferrari. He makes certain predictions as to why they will have a difficult season ahead.  “My personal thinking is that they are going to suffer a lot with the drivers’ management. They already had some battles between drivers last season.”

He cites certain instances of crashes between Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc to elaborate on the same. For instance, Ferrari’s infamous Brazilian Grand Prix where the two dramatically collided with each other with only 5 laps to go along with the qualifying incident at Abu Dhabi.

“Anyway, they are going to suffer this year, but be fine the next year. My personal thinking is that they are going to give Sainz a chance of his life.  Thus becoming one of the main Spanish sportsmen in the world. But he is going to be on the shoulder of Leclerc because Ferrari chose a 5-year contract for him which is the longest in their history. So it seems that he is going to be the new Schumacher” he added.

Valsechhi’s opinion should technically come as no surprise to fans. It is one that has been similarly expressed by various veterans and analysts. Likewise, it was also clearly evident in 2019 when Ferrari’s fairly poor synergy was observable to most.  Despite this, they still have one last chance this season to redeem themselves. Will they do it is a question that we will only see the answers to in July when the remainder season begins.

The Italian team has also been going through an uncertain phase lately. Of course, with Leclerc parading Maranello and practice of that sort, they are definitely gearing up for a peculiar 2020. But will all of this payout? It seems quite unsure at the moment.

Alongside this, with the entry of Carlos Sainz in 2021, everything at the moment seems quite unpredictable. Will their plan of replacing Sebastian Vettel for him work out in their favor? Will the second fiddle to Charles Leclerc be a successful master plan? Only time can tell. With the current pandemic situation and revamped 2021 structure, things mostly look bleak.
