‘There Is No Miracle Possible’ – Romain Grosjean Dejected After Haas’ Dismal Pace in Bahrain

It has been a tumultuous Formula 1 season for Romain Grosjean and Haas. Not only has his car been uncompetitive all year, but the Frenchman is also facing the chop for the next season.

He has mustered just single points finish this year after crossing the checkered flag in ninth place at Eifel Grand Prix 2020. Currently at the 18th spot in the driver’s standings just above his teammate Kevin Magnussen, he has mere two points to his name.

Poor Qualifying for Romain Grosjean

The 2020 Bahrain GP qualifying did not give him any upturn in fortunes either. The former Lotus driver will line up 19th on the grid for Sunday’s race, next to his teammate on 18th. To put it simply, he had zero chance of getting into Q2 with that car.

Speaking after qualifying, he said –

“The last lap I think it was going OK and the last couple of corners I tried to attack a little bit more to enjoy. And to drive the way I like to drive normally.

“But the car couldn’t quite take it,” he added.

“So I lost a couple of tenths there. I mean, it would have been one position more on the grid but we don’t really have much so that’s what we have.”

Haas’ decline hurts Grosjean

The American team that entered Formula 1 in 2016 has had a downward trajectory in the last couple of seasons. 10-time podium winner Grosjean was the team’s marquee hire, and he led the team to a fifth place finish in Bahrain that year, “I put a lot of effort into that project and it was going well. And obviously, if we remember here the first year, we finished fifth, ages ago.”

“So, yes, it’s a bit sad for everyone because they deserve more. The way they operate the car and the way they work and so on, I think they deserve more. But it’s what we have, there is no miracle possible.”

It is important to note that all the teams supplemented by Ferrari engines have regressed. Hence, a part of their problems has been their engine. However, the team doesn’t have a satisfactory car either. Haas is barely surviving in Formula 1 for the next season, but Romain isn’t. He has paid the price for their poor form; his F1 journey is drawing a sad closure.
