Ferrari’s den proved to be a colossal disaster for the defending Constructor Champions. The Silver Arrows never had such a disappointing qualification and sprint race for a long time. As the team continues to struggle, Lewis Hamilton expressed his views after the Sprint race on Saturday at Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.

Friday’s qualification saw George and Lewis finish in P11 and P13, respectively. This was by far their worst qualifying session in recent times. The sprint race wasn’t any better as the duo couldn’t move up any positions to start the race on Sunday.

For Lewis, it was another bad day at the office after Saudi Arabia. The seven-time world champion moved down from P13 to P14. Talking about this, Hamilton conveyed, “We’re obviously not fighting for this championship, but we’re fighting to understand the car.”

I had felt better this morning, there seemed to be improvements. However, it is difficult to overtake in Imola. It will be a complicated race, the whole year will be difficult for us. There is no light at the end of the tunnel, but we are working on it,” the Mercedes driver further stated to Sky Sports.

What seems to be going wrong with Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes?

The start of the season has been far from ideal for the German team. A team that fights for Constructor’s Championship every year and has won it back-to-back the last eight years is off-pace from day one in 2022.

There are multiple reasons why the Silver Arrows aren’t fighting with the likes of Red Bulls and Ferraris. Firstly, it is the power unit that isn’t as strong as compared to its 2021 counterpart. The same issue is reflected in the Mercedes customers, including Aston Martin, McLaren, and Williams.

Secondly, it is believed that porpoising has been a major issue for the Brackley-based team. All in all, this season has been a complete disaster so far for a team like Mercedes AMG F1.
