Since joining as McLaren’s team principal in 2019, Andreas Seidl has overseen a turnaround in their fortunes. The Woking-based outfit are now heading the midfield battle, three years after struggling at the back of the grid. One of their drivers, Lando Norris, is at the forefront of McLaren’s rise.
Signing for McLaren in 2019, the Briton now has three podiums to his name, two of which have come this season. While many have termed him a ‘future world champion,’ Seidl had his own thoughts on the term itself.

Andreas Seidl thinks there are a number of future world champions on the current grid
With 56 points this season, Lando Norris stands in third place in the driver’s championship. His run of consistent performances since his debut in 2019 has earned him a new tag: future world champion.
Although this tag itself is not new to F1, Seidl admits there are many future world champions on the grid today. This leaves him with no choice but to be pleased with any comments made towards Norris being a future world champion.

The German said, “Well, in general I have to smile. If you read all the comments from the last 12 months, we have a lot of future world champions at the moment on the grid.
“I’m questioning where all these guys will drive because there can only be one champion each year.”

However, his competition is extremely stiff. Norris is part of a very talented generation of young drivers. Some of these drivers include Charles Leclerc, Max Verstappen, and Carlos Sainz.
With Red Bull the only team to challenge Mercedes year after year, Verstappen looks to have the best chance to win a title at the moment. In addition, with Ferrari looking resurgent, Leclerc and Sainz can also challenge for titles in the future. Should he move to Mercedes, George Russell could also be one of those drivers who can win a world title.
