The Red Bull camp will be disappointed after Sunday’s race in Interlagos. Not only did they squander their starting positions, but the final lap drama between teammates Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez also have the fans worried. Christian Horner would hope to solve the tussle internally before the next race. Moreover, Jenson Button questioned the RBR team regarding this aspect.

It would have been a wonderful sight to witness Max Verstappen returning the favor to his teammate, who is fighting for P2 in the driver’s championship. However, it wasn’t to be as Verstappen stunned fans around the world with his decision. Now, former F1 champion Jenson Button was surprised Red Bull didn’t discuss this internally.

Button told Sky Sports, “Max could have come out of this so well – the world champion letting his team-mate pass so he can fight for second place in the championship. It’s amazing, isn’t it? But you’ve got to ask Red Bull. If they have discussed this beforehand, as Max said, why are they asking him to do it in the race?

He also mentioned, “It feels like they haven’t discussed it properly before the race weekend or before the race as a team and that seems like the bigger issue.”

Verstappen, who has already won his 2nd world title, might be looking forward to winning his 15th race of the season. However, Red Bull’s focus should arguably be getting Sergio Perez to finish P2 in the standings.

Christian Horner found himself in a tough position after the events that took place in Interlagos. Max Verstappen repeatedly ignored team orders publicly and denied switching positions with his teammate Sergio Perez. The incident caused a huge uproar amongst the fans. However, the Red Bull boss insisted that Verstappen will fully support Perez’s cause in Abu Dhabi.

Horner said, “We discuss these things internally. The drivers have obviously spoken about it as well. They are very, very clear. For us, Checo is now tied on points with Charles; Ferrari didn’t switch their cars round.”

He added, “We go into Abu Dhabi, as a team, to do the very best that we can for Checo to achieve that second place, and Max will fully support that.”

Checo is level on points with Charles Leclerc of Ferrari. The duo will go head-to-head in Abu Dhabi in their bid to achieve the runners-up position this year.
