As the new dawn of Formula 1 began, drivers and fans expected closer racing action and more teams to be competing for the championship. Of course, the first four rounds have provided some nail-biting action. However, there have been only two winners so far – Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc. Although the grid is closer than last season, Fernando Alonso is not content with the new regulations.

Alonso has been one of the most vocal critics of the new F1 regulations. The FIA’s aim was to better the overtaking opportunities and provide more wheel to wheel racing. Although the Spaniard is satisfied with the progress made, he feels the cars are more technical and complicated to understand.

Fernando Alonso is not happy with the new regulations

Max vs Charles has been the theme as they have won 2 races each. In Australia, Leclerc was in a league of his own, while Verstappen also experienced the same situation at Imola. Hence, Alonso feels the new regulations have made no difference in terms of bringing the grid close together.

He said, “The new rules were supposed to bring teams closer together and that various teams and drivers could win races. The order in classification is still by teams and not by drivers, so in general the sport should continue working on that and improve it. “

“It’s easy to follow the cars, we don’t lose as much aerodynamics as we lost before, but the tyres are still a problem. By following the cars we still damage the tyres a lot,” he added.

Further, Alonso feels it will take time for the drivers to adapt to the car and the new regulations. “This year’s cars are not like the previous generation of cars, which we knew very well and got to the circuit and the car was running close to optimal. This year we need some time to adjust everything,” conveyed the two-time world champion.
