Hamilton opened up about his decision to sack his father ahead of the 2010 season opener in Bahrain. He said, “Dad will miss being here, But it was me who initiated the break. He’s got other things to focus on, but I don’t want my dad to be my manager anymore.” He added, “I will at some stage have a new manager, but I am in no rush. He’s still taking care of a lot of stuff, but he’s slowly backing out.”
Although the decision was a tough one to make, ultimately Hamilton wanted more control over his life. Hamilton said, “He tried to take it as a dad… But at some stage, I felt that I would be able to start taking on quite a few of my own things.”
Hamilton only wanted to get out from under his father’s supervision. This took a toll on their relationship with the two just communicating through texts for a while. However, since then Hamilton has gone on to attain unparalleled success and repaired his relationship with his father.

Happy birthday to my father, the man who made it all happen. He taught me determination. How to win and how to lose. To never to give up and always stand for what I believe in.
