Formula 1 is a competitive sport. 20 of the best drivers in the world fighting head to head on the same piece of tarmac. That being said, once in a while it is not uncommon to witness competitiveness and rivalry to spill off the racing track.

Pierre Gasly and Charles Leclerc have climbed up to the zenith of motorsports together. There is a rivalry, as you’d expect. However, behind the scenes, they did also develop a friendship. That being said, in Gasly’s own words, the things they did off the race track also got competitive, and it happened often!
While appearing on the Fast & Loose podcast, the Frenchman opened up about his early rivalry with Leclerc. Gasly began, “Whether we played PlayStation, whether we play like soccer…ping pong, whatever. We gotta beat each other! It was like to an extreme level.”
He also went on to share an unlikely anecdote about the duo breaking guitars. “You know Guitar Hero? I have played that so many times with Charles and the number of guitars we broke like you won’t…you can’t imagine!”
It probably isn’t easy going up against Charles Leclerc, irrespective of age and area of expertise. That being said, Carlos Sainz, as he has admitted, had the biggest challenge of going up against the Monegasque in Ferrari as his teammate.

It’s probably been a while, but it would appear that Ferrari have once again found their champion. However, for Sainz, matching up against Leclerc was more than just about the hype and fan fervor around Leclerc. It was a test of talent, patience, and his very existence.

Talking about his 2022 and what he had to do to challenge Leclerc, he said, “I had to reinvent myself in many ways to try and find the pace.”
He explained, “It has been an extremely challenging season for me,” Sainz says. “I found a lot of setbacks at the beginning of the year with this new car, with the new regulations, that didn’t adapt to my driving style.”
