The promising Nyck de Vries is the talk of the town in the racing world right now. With his remarkable debut last weekend with Williams, Vries finished at p9. This caught the attention of a lot of teams. With Williams and Alpine in consideration to bring him onboard, AlphaTauri may also be on the cards for the man.
There are reports about a meet with the Red Bull adviser whilst the young racer also has plans to test for Alpine. With all these offers coming in, you’d think that de Vries now has the privilege to choose what is best for him.
Well, the new dutch racer states otherwise.

The Formula E world champion, Nyck de Vries, has a whole different take on the situation. According to nl.motorsport.com, Nyck expressed himself on a talk show, saying, “I’m not quite sure whether I’m in such a luxurious situation that I can choose.” [Translated using Google translate]
“It’s largely beyond my control. I’ve been talking to Williams for a long time and I was able to make my debut there last weekend. That would be a logical step.”
“I’ve been in contact with Alpine since July and I’m going to test it in Budapest next week. I’m flying there on Monday. And as the media noticed yesterday, I went to Austria to meet Helmut Marko. Those are the facts.”
He further goes on to add, “In this world everything is not about performance, but there is momentum now. That makes a difference, but it does not guarantee a seat. We are not there yet.”
How did the drivers’ market change after Nyck de Vries’ F1 debut?
Nyck de Vries is currently the reserved driver for the Mercedes-AMG F1 team and made his F1 debut last weekend at the Italian Grand Prix for Williams as he stepped in place of an unwell Alexander Albon.
Bringing Williams one of their best finishes this season, Nyck crossed the finish line at P9. Williams has been in consideration of giving Nyck a race seat since they’ve been looking for someone as they might be letting Nicholas Latifi go.
Red Bull earlier was in conversation with Colton Herta, the youngest race winner in IndyCar. However, that deal seems to have fallen through, as Colton is not being granted the FIA Super License. This has put a pin in Pierre Gasly‘s move to Alpine as well.
Post-race last weekend, things have shaken up a bit at Red Bull, as Nyck is making heads turn. As per the reports, Red bull adviser, Helmut Marko has had a meeting with the young racer in Graz, Austria to discuss his potential new venture next season alongside Yuki Tsunoda.

Meanwhile, Alpine is also looking for someone to partner up with Esteban Ocon. So they too must be keeping tabs on the 27-year-old.
Amid all this, the Mercedes’ boss, Toto Wolff, has a different take altogether when it comes to the 2019 F2 champion and his reserve driver. After de Vries tested for them in an FP session back in July, Wolff stated, “I can’t really help him.”
He claims that there isn’t much he can do to give him a seat as “that would be felt as an interference and goes the contrary way.”
