The qualifying ahead of the Australian GP has caught many by surprise. First, Sergio Perez crashed out of Q1 after beaching his car in the gravel without setting even a single lap time. Then, Williams’ Alex Albon and Haas’ Nico Hulkenberg put up a phenomenal show to put their teams in the top 10 for the starting grid. Then finally, against all odds, Lewis Hamilton (P3) and George Russell (P2) finished behind Max Verstappen. However, entertainment did not end with the on-track action. Some fans, with a good eye for detail, spot a hilarious synchronization between the Mercedes duo while posing with Verstappen that left everyone in splits.
After purely losing out on pace against Ferrari and Aston Martin in the season opener in Bahrain, many felt Mercedes’ campaign was over even before it began. Even Russell gave up after the first race, predicting the RB duo to take away every win in the season. Later, Hamilton turned against his team, publically slamming them for ignoring his feedback on the car. However, it seemed like they put their differences behind them as the senior Briton congratulated the team for their effort after an overwhelming result in qualifying at Albert Park.

As is the tradition after each qualifying session, the top three position holders posed for the cameras. We mostly see the drivers put an arm around each other’s shoulders while celebrating their top 3 starting positions. However, Red Bull and Mercedes drivers don’t share that camaraderie apparently as neither of the three did that. Moreover, George and Lewis, almost like they got a cue, put their hands behind their back in sync, while Max kept his arms at his side.
Take a look at how fans reacted to the accidental comedy the trio pulled off.
