However, it wasn’t meant to as his crash with Valtteri Bottas took a heavy toll on his MCL35M, which saw him out of the race.
But, this incident earned the 21-year-old a strange record in F1. Norris has recited from every eleventh race on the F1 calendar since 2019. It started with German GP, then the Eifel GP in 2020, and now the Hungarian GP this season.

The British driver was the German Grand Prix from last on the grid, as he had used more power units than allotted. However, it didn’t get better for Norris as after twenty-fives laps around the Hockenheimring, the McLaren driver had to call it a day.
Now in his second season in F1, the young McLaren driver was hoping to make an impact on the grid. He started Eifel GP in eighth place, was aiming to bag some points for the Woking-based team. But, yet again it wasn’t meant to be as just after 42 laps he had to retire.
Norris was hoping to break the eleventh race curse at the Hungaroring this past weekend. He found himself in sixth place, as the lights went out. However, just as he was heading into turn one, Bottas rear-ended him. In a matter of seconds, Norris hit the Red Bull of Max Verstappen.
The 21-year-old couldn’t take part in the restart after the red flag, as his McLaren had taken heavy damage. The Woking-based outfit went home empty-handed from Budapest, as Daniel Ricciardo finished outside the points in the eleventh race.

The McLaren driver has picked up three podiums and bagged points in all but one race this season. Norris would hope to put the Hungarian GP, and come back stronger after the summer break in Spa for the Belgium Grand Prix.
