Red Bull and Max Verstappen have been country miles ahead of their competition since 2022. In 2o23, they’ve taken it up a notch. However, if there is anyone who has the caliber to catch them up, it has to be the sleeping giant Mercedes, right? After a torrid 2022, and a disappointing start to this season, the Silver Arrows tried their luck and brought a major upgrade package to Monaco last weekend. But the real test lay ahead in Spain, with Lewis Hamilton at the helm of this fight back.
The 7x champion is finally finding his mojo back after the Brackley-based team revamped its design concept for the W14. And as things stand, it would appear that these changes are paying dividends for the team and the 38-year-old racing ace. In today’s qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix, Hamilton showed promise. Even though Verstappen clinched pole by a comfortable margin, Hamilton’s radio comms are a clear indication that he smells blood.
